Lexia® Core5® Reading
Core5 is an adaptive blended learning program that accelerates the development of literacy skills for primary-aged students of all abilities, helping them to make the critical shift between learning to read and reading to learn.
Introducing a New World Location: The Ural Mountains
As part of our efforts to explore different cultures and geographies, we’re excited to introduce students to a brand-new location: Level 12, The Ural Mountains! In this newly designed level, students will explore the rich heritage of this region, showcasing its beautiful landscape, wildlife, and culture.
Enhancements to High-Frequency Word Instruction
In alignment with science of reading and research-based best practices, Core5 has an updated instructional approach for teaching high-frequency words. New enhancements to the instruction step will draw students’ attention to letter-sound correspondences as well as build their ability to automatically recognise regular and irregular high-frequency words.
Expanded Opportunities for Phonological Awareness Review and Practice
An understanding of the sound structure of language is essential for learning to read and spell. Core5 has expanded its direct, systematic and explicit instruction in phonological awareness skills by adding new warmups that further review and practice phonological awareness skills across all levels up to the end of Year 2 level material. Offering students additional practice opportunities across more Core5 levels helps strengthen crucial foundational skills.
Lexia® PowerUp® Literacy
Lexia PowerUp Literacy is designed specifically for students in years 7 to 11 who are struggling to access the wider secondary curriculum due to poor literacy skills. The program focuses on accelerating literacy gains through an intensive, personalised learning experience that enhances reading, writing, and comprehension skills. PowerUp enables students to make multiple years of growth in a single academic year.
Enhancing Relevance and Inclusivity
Lexia has streamlined and enriched its PowerUp Literacy content to boost relevance, inclusivity, and educational precision. In the advanced Reading Comprehension levels, five passages and their question sets have been updated with culturally responsive texts and corresponding rigorous activities. The Word Study strand now includes 12 new engaging passages featuring diverse, multidimensional characters. Additionally, all Word Study fluency activities have been enhanced with deeper post-reading comprehension questions, further improving the learning experience.
Increased Focus on Vocabulary Learning
Aimed at enriching the learning experience for students, we’ve enhanced the vocabulary preview task in the new Reading Comprehension passages. This revised task offers a more in-depth and research-backed method for students to preview disciplinary vocabulary from the passage. Additionally, Lexia plans to expand this improved vocabulary preview task to the remaining Reading Comprehension activities in future releases.
As students read the passage that includes the previewed vocabulary, they still have access to the definitions of the essential words as they read, as well as definitions of other advanced vocabulary that will aid their comprehension of the text.
More Immersive Learning Experience
PowerUp now has a more cohesive and intentional set of sound effects that help immerse the student into the experience of learning. Engaging artwork and videos have been created for the new passages introduced in this release that draw students into the program. We’ve also expanded the number of units that include our Racing task where students select answers in the context of a car race.
PowerUp Certificates in myLexia
School staff can now easily celebrate success with their PowerUp students with a new Certificates tab on the Class Action Plan. Teachers can see when a student has recently completed a program level and print a personalised achievement certificate for that student to celebrate their progress.
